Chlorinated organic solvents in indoor play sand

Five samples of indoor play sand of different brands were analyzed for content of trichloroethylene and related chlorinated organic solvents, in order to establish whether these substances constitutes a risk for children playing with indoor play sand.

None of the solvents was detected in any of the samples. The results suggests that indoor play sand presently available on the Norwegian market does not constitute a risk for exposure to trichloroethylene and related chlorinated organic solvents.
