We are changing the oceans
Om publikasjonen
The world’s oceans and coastal regions are changing as a result of greenhouse gas emissions from human activity.
The world’s oceans are warming, and the biggest increases in temperature are measured near the surface. Warmer oceans have led to changes in marine ecosystems. Oceans are also becoming more acidic, a phenomenon known as “ocean acidification”, and oxygen levels have decreased. Sea levels are also rising due to global warming, but here there are regional differences. Considerable changes are going on in the Arctic.
This fact sheet describes the effects of climate change on oceans and coastal regions worldwide, as well as a few selected findings from Norwegian oceans and coastal regions, indicated by a Norwegian flag. The fact sheet also outlines potential future changes to oceans and coastlines.
